This course is open to all people, regardless of level of fluency in spanish! This course will be taught in Spanish.

En este curso, estudiantes alcanzarán aproximadamente un 80% de precisión en la lectura de documentos coloniales en español, desde el siglo 16 hasta el siglo 19. Comenzaremos aprendiendo a leer documentos coloniales, estudiando los patrones formales, el lenguaje y el contexto en que estas cartas fueron escritas.

Luego, iremos aprendiendo poco a poco a descifrar la escritura antigua colonial, los distintos estilos de grafía y las maneras de interpretar el contexto histórico y social de cada documento.

¡Una vez que lleguemos a los documentos del siglo XIX, todo será mucho más fácil!

In this course, students will achieve approximately 80% accuracy in reading colonial Spanish documents from the 16th through the 19th century. We will begin by learning to read colonial documents, studying the formal patterns, language, and context in which these letters were written.

Then, little by little, we will learn to decipher early colonial handwriting, the different styles of script, and the ways to interpret the historical and social context of each document.

Once we reach the documents from the 19th century, everything will be much easier
